DAMAGE APPLICATION TO AN INFANTRY UNIT
In point 4 Damage calculation in the basic manual it says that damage sustained by a unit is applied beginning with the most serious damage. Even if it seemed obvious, it is worth saying that if a unit with some pinned members takes further hits, you must apply the losses STARTING from the active models and not with the pinned! ones.
Example 1:
If a unit of 12 Germans with 8 models pinned! and 3 standing is hit and takes 3 Dead, the first models to die are those standing.
Example 2:
If a unit of 12 Germans with 6 pinned! models and 6 standing is hit and takes 4 dead and 4 pinned! Results, it must take the Dead from the standing models, sending the other 2 pinned and the remaining 2 pinned! are wasted.
Troops partially under cover or in mixed cover: differentiated targets
If the target unit has some models in cover, is split over different types of cover or is partially inside a position or bunker, state how many shots you are aiming at each "part" of the unit, applying the modifiers separately. Obviously, "hits" in one area cannot be carried over to another.
Example:
a german unit is partially in woods (light cover) and partially behind a wall. The american player decides to fire with an infantry squad; in this case he can split his 22 shots between the two "parts" as he chooses, but declaring his decision before rolling the dice. Even when he check for damage the rolls will be made differently for each "part", as, with the same number, an infantry man may be "Pinned!" in medium cover or killed in light cover (a 6 on the Small Arms Damage Table).
Example:
if the same unit is partially in a trench and partially not, only the part inside the trench would get the bonus of -1 to be hit.
